ICFAI University was established in Dehradun, Uttarakhand in 2003 as a private University after the Government of Uttarakhand passed the ICFAI University Act 2003 (Act No.16 of 2003). Since then ICFAI University Dehradun was granted the status of State University. The University is recognised by University Grants Commission, and Government of Uttarakhand. It is approved by Bar Council of India (BCI), and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). It is accredited by NAAC and certified by E-LEAD. ICFAI University Dehradun has academic agreement with IIT Bombay. It is also a member of The Association of CommonWealth Universities (UK), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and Law Association for Asia and the Pacific (Australia).

ICFAI Group of Educational Institutions is the main governing body of ICFAI University Dehradun. ICFAI Group of Educational Institutions was founded by finance specialist and academic Mr. N. J. Entrance Exams conducted by ICFAI University Dehradun

ICFAI University conducts the following entrance Examinations for admission to various programs –

ILSAT (ICFAI Law School Admission Test) – This entrance Examination is conducted annually by ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad for the admission to B.B.A LL.B, B.A LL.B and LL.M programs. ILSAT is conducted on national-level through online mode. Candidates get 2 hours to solve a total 125 multiple choice questions in ILSAT. English, Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, GK/Current Affairs, and Analytical Reasoning has 25 questions each. ILSAT has 14 exam centers including Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Jodhpur, Chandigarh, Raipur, Kolkata, Ranchi, and Delhi – Gurgaon.

IBSAT (ICFAI Business Studies Aptitude Test) – IBSAT is conducted annually for admission to MBA and PhD programs. The exam is a computer based test which is held through online mode. It has 140 multiple choice questions with a 2 hour time duration. The medium of IBSAT is English. There is no negative marking in IBSAT. The exam includes questions of Verbal Ability, RC, Quant, and Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. Entrance Test

ICFAI University Dehradun provides admission to courses based on merit and entrance examinations. For some programs candidates are required to appear for entrance examinations either conducted by the University itself or by the National Testing Agencies.
