Birla Institute of Applied Sciences, popular as BIAS, was established in 1962 as a higher education institution in Bhimtal, Uttarakhand. BIAS is affiliated with Uttarakhand Technical University and is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi.

The college offers various degree courses for both undergraduate and postgraduates in the fields of Engineering and Applied Science such as B.Tech., IT and Software, among many others.

Students can be admitted to undergraduate courses by taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which was previously conducted by CBSE. To gain admission to postgraduate courses, candidates must qualify for a common entrance examination by Uttarakhand Technical University. In addition, students can also be admitted directly based on their class 12th percentage via counselling.

The faculty at BIAS has experienced teachers to help the students not only in learning but also in research activities that aim to develop the students throughout their studies. The institute has a central academic block, laboratory block, workshops, computer centre and staff quarters apart from separate hostels for boys and girls. The central academic block includes lecture halls, computer labs, a well-equipped library, and a digital library.

The institute conducts placement every year and a large number of recruiters visit the campus to recruit students to their companies and provide technical as well as non-technical training.

  1.  75% of placements came in 2022-23, with an average salary of 4.75 LPA, the highest being 14.5 LPA.
